To get through this thing called life

Prince's description of life is spot on. Don't let it bring you down, we only get this one go around.

In current culture it seems as though there is this premise that you need to “get away” from your everyday life to find adventure and fulfillment. From the overuse of the term “wanderlust” (which really is an old German phrase and not a Millennial created hashtag) to the growing popularity of experience travel on sites like Airbnb, we have created this idea that the goal is to get away from the monotony of our daily life.

Here at The Gypsy Wives we don’t do things that way. We embrace the everyday like an adventure. You don’t need to travel to Thailand to experience something new. You don’t need to fly across the country to find beauty or the best place to get a coffee, cocktail, beer, food, etc. You don’t need to spend any money at all to get a different perspective. Take a drive and find a new hiking spot. Try a new restaurant in your hometown. Spark a conversation with someone you meet in the store. Getting away is great, but learning to find adventure in the everyday is a transformational thing. It changes the way you move through life.

But just like travel, life can have bumps in the road. Things don’t always go as planned. And sometimes it gets a bit scary. Just like skydiving, bungee jumping, or a rough landing at the end of a long, turbulent flight, sometimes in life you need to hold on tight and hope for the best. The past few months have been kind of like that for us. Between an unexpected move, an emergency hospital stay for a sick kid, the death of a family member, and a few other rough spots we spent the past few months dealing with the bumps in the road on this journey we call life. And just like the landing after that rough flight, when everyone claps when the tires hit the tarmac, we look back feeling grateful for making it through the tough ride.

Now that the bumps are in our review mirror, we’d like to get back to some fun exploration. Look out for lots of new blog posts and travel tips. And always remember to Adventure On!
